I will say it now, and I will say it again (many times!): BEING A MOM IS HARD!
I won’t deny it. Hell, I’ll shout it from the rooftops. Even a decade and a half managing Corporate America wasn’t this hard!
I know what you’re thinking. I never expected motherhood to be easy, but also didn’t expect for it to be this difficult. I knew there’d be challenges mixed in with some ups and downs. But I wasn’t prepared for how physical and emotional it truly is. Sure, the shelves at your local bookstore are lined with parenting books. But seriously, once you become a mom, when do you have the time to read them? And if you can make the time, there are a zillion different opinions on how to raise your child. So how do you choose?
As a self-diagnosed OCD, germaphobic, Type-A personality, adjusting to motherhood has been particularly interesting. To say it has been an adventure is an understatement. I like to be prepared. I like to be on time. I like to have order. I like things clean. I like to sleep. But frankly, you get none of that when a child enters your life. Forget prescription drugs and therapy, maybe a kid is just what I needed to cure my neuroses.
So why the blog you ask? Well between changing diaper blowouts and dodging projectiles, I decided I needed a place to keep my sanity on this difficult journey. I also needed a place to share my unsolicited stores, discoveries and advice.
So back to what I was saying: Being a mom is hard! It’s a thankless job that throws your entire world off kilter. You learn to operate with little to no sleep. You worry incessantly about everything. And as if that is not enough, there’s a whole lot of pee, explosive poo and projectile puke (I call them the “three P’s”) to make the adventure even more messy.
Yep, it’s hard work. But, I’ll share a little secret…it’s the best job EVER!
